Michael J Lonsdale Ltd visits Beckers Green Primary School for #INWED19

Michael J Lonsdale with Becker Green primary school pupils, visiting for International Women in Engineering Day #INWED19

The UK provides well over 2.3 million jobs in the construction industry, however, only 290,000 of these workers are women. Here at Michael Lonsdale Group, we are committed to increasing the number of female workers and pushing equality in the industry. So for this year’s International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) we ventured out to Beckers Green Primary School in Essex to spread awareness to the younger generation.

A large issue revolving around women in the industry is the lack of information provided to our school children. With this in mind our Engineering Services Director, Paul Cornwell, alongside Parris Higgs (Trainee Planner) and Jessie Andrews (Assistant Quantity Surveyor) presented to the school’s children remarkable facts about the construction industry, the many different roles within the industry and the rise of women in the sector. Speaking about their path to the industry and how they got where they are, Parris and Jessie did an amazing job of grabbing the kids’ attention and highlighting the importance of women in the industry.

There has been some important clarification concerning career choices for boys and girls. Some truly believed they were limited by their gender and are pleased to hear this is not the case.

We would like to thank Paul, Parris, and Jessie for their hard work, not forgetting all of the amazing women that work for Michael Lonsdale Group. We also want to congratulate the Women in Engineering Society – the charity behind INWED – who are celebrating their 100th birthday of inspiring women across the globe.
